Evaluation – Question 4

4.  Who would be the audience for your media product?

Our movie's certificate rating by the BBFC

Our media product is based upon many thriller films and a mixture of some other genres. For example our media film is made to recreate a suspense feeling that the thriller audience enjoy, as well as the suspense, our film also includes some mystery, as to why all this has happened and where is it going to go and who is are the people involved. With all these genres joint, we can gather a greater amount audience for our media film, as it creates a wider variety of genre for everyone to enjoy.

The age group for our video is anyone above the age of 14 (Classification 15), due to not too much violence or sexual content included into our film. The age group audience we are aiming for are teenagers and adults who enjoy thrillers, they will feel the most connected to our film because of the age range of actors and content included. By watching the opening scene you are able to establish which audience will be watching this film because we use typical suspense conventions, like from other thrillers where there are stalking scenes that create tension for the audience, also the way the film is pieced together is to generate a mysterious sense for the movie. So anyone over the age of 14 will be able to watch and make sense of the movie, as children would not be able to understand the structure of the movie and the complex arrangement of shots and scenes. By having a classification of 15, much content will be limited, with not too much bad language and explicit scenes. So therefore we have controlled the scenes to not be too revealing and violent, we have done this by using close-ups and tilts to remove the gore scenes from being shown too much (For example when Mr Wolfe gets shot, the camera tilts towards the sky and a shot goes off) by doing this we have limited the gore and therefore have created a film with a classification of 15.

Our film can be viewed and is aimed at both genders, but can be seen to swing towards the man gender due to the way the film plays out. Our cast seen from the start only includes men, which will impact some viewers from watching the film (mostly women), and the stereotypical view of men watching thrillers and more ‘manly’ films puts our film further into the men’s type of film, as it includes betrayal, weapons and gangsters, which are more illustrated with the men gender than women, as well as men finding these kinds of things more appealing to them than most women. Due to the other stereotype view of women only liking romances, mediocre drama’s and rom-coms for their viewings, instead of action packed films or thrillers.

All current actors are men

Our chosen audience will be impacted by the subcultures included in our media film. These subcultures include teenagers (young adults), gangsters, also social class’s middle and upper classes. These classes will be the most influenced to watch our media video, due to these allocated subcultures being present and most interested in my type of media film (Thriller).

The points made above will be partially important to the audience that views my media product, but the most impactful consideration for the audience, for my film, will be the genre it is represented as. This is the thriller genre, with a mixture of mystery and maybe a bit of psychological thrills associated within my movie; it will impact the audience the most, as it is at the core of the movie and what generates the whole story and type of movie. So everyone who does not like to watch thrillers will be most impacted by the genre not to watch my movie.

I have created a thriller by adding suspense moments and shocks to accelerate the heart beat and create tension for the viewer. The characters and sounds used to create the thrill for the viewer have been used by many films before mine, as the thriller conventions used by me are universal known techniques that are seen in many of the typical thrillers that come out in cinemas. Techniques  like hiding the antagonists and using the darkness to create an atmosphere are all used within my movie to raise the heart rate for the viewer, as well as suspense music used to notify when something terrible is about to commence.

Overall I have used many conventions of a thriller to create an audience for my media film. A wider audience has also been created by combining smaller subgenres from films into my thriller media film.

Beaten face adds to the type of genre the movie is, due to the rewind (Recollection) scene next
