Evaluation – Question 3

  1. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Our chosen distributor

Distribution is key to identifying and delivering the biggest possible audience for a new launch title, due to so many different kinds of entertainments around in the modern days (Gaming, Music, and TV Series Ect), as well as all of the other films that are competing for your audiences money.

For our media institution there is only one distributor I will have to allocate for my media film and that is ‘Vertigo Films’ due to the reason that they are an independent and growing UK film producer and distributor. Their latest movie ‘Monsters’, which I have watched helped me decide and choose my film distributor, as I thought their movie was created in a immense sense and with an outstanding independent director.

Another reason is that Vertigo Films is vertically integrated with a production firm and a distribution firm. This makes it much easier to distribute the film for the audience, as we will be fully supported by Vertigo Films. This will also make the process of getting all the promotion and films to cities all over the world.

Our film is a very low budget British film, which is co-founded by Vertigo Films. Vertigo films create movies, which compete with other ‘Hollywood’ movies, and most importantly they have a very low budget (their latest film had a budget of $500,000).

Vertigo Films will be able to distribute our film, due to them knowing how to advertise and create events for people to learn about their films, they have advertised their latest film, which is in a familiar genre as ours in an inventive and clever way. Their newest film gathered so much recognition that I have decided to choose them as our distributors for our media film. They used all technologies to create their advertisements, through the internet, social media campaigns to the television ads, posters and events.

So I have decided to choose Vertigo Films, the reason is that they have creative campaigns to attract specific audiences to their movies, and innovative ways to create events for people to join in and get interested in their film. By choosing them it will allow me to have help (because of creation facilities) through vertical integration as they own more than a film distribution business.

Vertigo Films was recently funded by the British and European films industry to create a 3D filming facilities area, where films in 3D will be created. The most recent is a movie called ‘Street Dance 3D’ where it was put out into the movie world to tackle other big 3D blockbusters. By having 3D filming technology Vertigo Films will help us create a 3D film, as many audiences find watching films in 3D much more appealing and interesting than the standard 2D versions already being widely used by many films and creators.

Vertigo Films will guide us in the journey into combining different technologies and marketing strategies to create a most creative and innovative way of creating and delivering (distributing) my film to my target audiences with different ideas, which just have not been seen or used by other big distributors all over the world. This will help my film get much more recognition due to all the clever website and social networking marketing strategies used by vertigo films to lure and grab the attention of the target audience, this has been done to a similar genre movie ‘Monsters’ which uses thrills to create a great film.

Monsters website with discounts and links to tickets ect.

Vertigo Films has used a clever strategy on their website to give participants discounts and information, as well as ‘Infected Zones’  where people get to find out things about the movie, this is all done to create a ‘buzz’ for their movie, this draws in many audiences and I expect a similar strategy for our movie. Below is a picture of their website and their latest movie ‘Monsters’ with details about the movie and the infected zones.
